Who we are

Redhill NASS has been meeting for over 20 years and has an open door policy for all people with AS. Either contact the branch rep or just turn up on a Monday and join in our exercises.

We have members with experience of AS and the associated issues (iritis, colitis etc.) and we are happy to share our experiences with you if you just want to talk about your AS.

What we do

We meet every Monday (except Bank Holidays) between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm to take part in a gym session run by one of our team of experienced physiotherapists.  The gym is situated in the therapies department of the East Surrey Hospital. The sessions are comprised of a warm-up aerobic routine, followed by targeted exercises of stretches in a variety of situations (i.e. standing, sitting and on mats). There also can be circuits and ball exercises. All members work at their own pace, you will not be pressured to do anything you don't feel you can do.

To attend these sessions, you should have been diagnosed in the UK as suffering from AS. At your initial attendance, you may be assessed by the physiotherapist in charge to ascertain your fitness to participate. There is a weekly subscription of £6 payable on the night.

We look forward to seeing you.

NASS HO visit - June 2015

NASS Branch Development Officer, Laura Richardsm visited NASS Redhill on Monday 8 June.

Branch members enjoyed learning about what NASS have been up to and asking questions so much so, that by the time we had finished talking, there was only 15 minutes remaining of our session (even with meeting 20 minutes earlier than usual).

Of course, we didn't get off lightly as there was still time to squeeze in some stretches. During Laura's visit, the session was supervised by qualified physiotherapist, Kim Montgomery who is one of our four physiotherapists who operate on a rota.

Branch member Brian Jenkins told NASS HO: "It is an enjoyable, almost social event by spending an hour a week focusing on AS but also having a few laughs. It helps make having AS less of a negative.

"The exercise really helps maintain fitness and reduce stiffness. I find it essential in helping manage my AS".

NASS Redhill are looking for new members! So, if you like what you read, live in or around Redhill and would like to attend the branch, you can find out more information from Alan Slade. All you have to do is contact him on the details at the top of this page.
