Keep safe anywhere in the world - Sign up for MedicAlert

On the NASS membership card you will find the words, 'In the event of an accident please handle this person's neck and spine with care'. We know a lot of NASS members carry their card in case of emergency.

However NASS members might also want to consider signing up for MedicAlert.

The MedicAlert Foundation is the only registered charity that provides a life-saving service for people with hidden medical conditions. MedicAlert members wear a bracelet, necklet, wristband or watch, known as an Emblem, which bears the international symbol for medicine. The Emblem is engraved with your important medical details such as main medical conditions, a personal ID number and a 24 hour emergency telephone number providing access to your medical records and personal details from anywhere in the world in over 100 languages.

NASS has provided the charity with information on AS and in particular provided important information on handling an unconscious patient or person with an injured spine who has AS.

Medical identification ensures that in an emergency situation, first responders know that you have a hidden medical condition. All medical personnel will have immediate access to vital information on the back of the MedicAlert disc. By phoning the emergency number, they will gain further medical and personal information about your condition, medication, next of kin details, and advanced decision wishes.

How to become a member of MedicAlert

Membership of the service costs just £25 per year paid as a subscription and the cost of the Emblem starts from £19.95.  NASS has been able to negotiate a £10 discount on the first year's subscription as long as you are a NASS member.  All you need to do, if you are a NASS member, is to call the freephone number 0800 581 420 and quote NASS

As a registered charity, the MedicAlert Foundation can also provide free membership to individuals on a limited income. For more information and to view the entire range of Emblems please visit www.medicalert.org.uk
