Around 200 participants took to Manchester's Heaton Park and London's Richmond Park on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 May to celebrate World AS Day with a walk (or run) in the park. Congratulations to everyone who completed the event with a special mention to those in Manchester who tolerated the squally weather conditions.

NASS was particularly grateful to Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park, for giving up his Sunday morning to welcome the participants in Richmond Park and starting the run. Zac's participation at this event brings us a step closer in gaining public recognition for AS both with his constituents and in Parliament.

We are also grateful to all the participants who gained sponsorship. Over £10,000 has already been raised which will support the work of NASS, and in particular, will contribute to the research grant awarded last month to support a research assistant to work on the identification and validation of genes involved in ankylosing spondylitis. It will also contribute to supporting and developing the branch network and raising awareness with the Looking Ahead report.

Photographs of the event will be available on the website later this week or early next.
