For the more extreme athletes out there and the thrill seekers amongst you we've picked out a few more events that might interest you.

Triathlons

Triathlons are multi-discipline events which usually involve a swim, cycle and finally a road race. These events do require a high level of fitness but if you are just starting out on the triathlon trail, you may want to check out www.triforlife.co.uk. They have a variety of triathlons for beginners and also hold events for under 18's, starting with their Scootathlon from just 4 years old.

If you are a more experienced athlete and would like to enter a competitive triathlon, a list of events can be found on http://www.britishtriathlon.org/.

Ultra marathons

If a marathon just isn't enough for you, you could try entering an ultra marathon which are usually 62 miles - just a little longer than the standard ones! There are a whole host of ultra marathons available in the UK and around the world. To find out more go to www.runningworld.com or www.acrossthedivide.com for overseas ultra marathons.

Off road races

Now marathons and ultra marathons may be tough but have you ever considered getting yourself a little bit dirty for NASS? If so an off road race may be for you. There is a selection of races which take part on all sorts of terrain - but mostly mud! Here are a few of our favourites:
