Anyone can set up their own unique online sponsorship page through Justgiving or Virgin Money Giving for any event they are doing. You can either set yourself up as an individual or create a team with friends or colleagues. We would prefer it if our fundraisers used Virgin money Giving as their charges are much lower than Just Giving.

You can personalise your page by adding photos and a personal message making sure people know what you are doing. Then e-mail your page through to your friends and colleagues and link it through Facebook and Twitter.

By creating your own sponsorship page, friends, colleagues and relatives will have the opportunity to make their donations to you online via debit or credit card. People usually give more when they pay by card as they don't have to find the cash.

Both Virgin Money Giving and Justgiving let us know when you have set up a page. The money is transferred automatically to us so you don't have to chase any cash or cheques. Gift Aid is also collected automatically.

Top tips for your fundraising page

  • Tell a story and make it personal
  • Take every opportunity to tell everyone what you are doing and why you're doing it and add photos to your page
  • Email your page link to your friends, family, work colleagues, and ask them to pass it on to all their contacts. You will be amazed how generous people are
  • Ask your closest and most generous family and friends to sponsor you first. You often find that the first person sets the standard - so others will hopefully follow
  • Add your link to your e-mail signature
  • Use social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to reach a larger audience
  • Keep reminding people what you're doing - especially around pay day!
