Who we are
We are a long established friendly group. New members young and old are welcome.
Come along and meet others with the same condition.
What we do
We have a dedicated team of physiotherapists who take turns in leading the NASS exercises. The sessions vary but include mat work and the use of gym equipment.
The exercises are specifically for those with AS and focus on improving movement, posture, strength and general fitness. Although the class is run as a group session the exercises can be adapted to suit individual needs.
How to find us
NASS Burton-on-Trent enjoy line dancing
NASS Burton-on-Trent members welcomed Laura Richards, NASS Branch Development Officer, on 8 June 2015.
NASS Burton-on-Trent has a good relationship with the hospital and is supported by both the physiotherapy and rheumatology teams. The branch operates a physiotherapist rota and on the date of Laura's visit, the session was taken by Hilary Smith, who has been with the hospital for almost 40 years and has supported the branch for much of that time.
The session began with a warm up followed by some line dancing. Unfortunately, Laura was unable to catch a picture as she had too much fun linking arms and dancing.
Hilary then moved on to some mat work. The exercises given are designed to get the back and hips moving, important in the management of AS.
Branch member, Lucy Perry, has been with us for 5 years. She said that meeting other people with AS and doing different exercises as a group were the most important benefits of coming along to NASS Burton-on-Trent.
