Going for Gold

Going for Gold: The NASS 50th Walking Challenge

Walking for the Future: 50 Years of Support, Advocacy, and Action

Important Event Update: We are going nationwide and virtual!

First of all, we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported our “Going for Gold” campaign so far, especially those who have signed up as well as those who have already generously donated. Your support means everything to everyone at NASS.
Due to the extreme heatwave that we are currently experiencing London, we have been advised to consider the risk of running the event, and have therefore had to make the difficult decision to cancel the walk in Victoria Park on Saturday 27 June.
As a charity supporting people living with axial SpA, our primary duty of care is, and always will be, your health, safety, and well-being. Following official weather advice and government guidance, it is clear that gathering to walk in this extreme heat poses too great a risk to those taking part, our volunteers and our staff.
While we are heartbroken that we cannot walk together in London, this unexpected change brings a wonderful silver lining: our 50th Anniversary Walk is going fully virtual, meaning absolutely anyone across the UK can now take part!
Whether you live down the road from Victoria Park or hundreds of miles away, you can now join the team to celebrate 50 years of NASS and help us hit our £50,000 milestone for our difficult-to-manage axial SpA project.

Walk with us. Raise for the future of axial SpA treatment and care. Let’s make the next 50 years even stronger.

How to take part:

  1. Sign up via JustGiving: Head directly to our official NASS Going for Gold JustGiving Campaign Page. Click “Start fundraising” to set up your own personal profile linked to the campaign.
  2. Choose your distance: Pick between a 5km or 10km route in your local area or wherever you would like. You can complete it all at once, or break it down into smaller, manageable chunks over a few days.
  3. Order your orange t-shirt: Once you have signed up, email us at fundraising@nass.co.uk with your address and preferred size t-shirt and we will post it to you as quickly as possible!
  4. Walk in your own time: There is absolutely no rush. Please choose a cooler day, a shady route, or an early morning over the coming weeks when it is perfectly comfortable and safe for you to walk.
  5. Fundraise your way: Share your new page with friends and family! Every penny counts towards our £50k target.
  6. Let’s spread the word online: Take photos during your local walk and send them to us or tag us on social media using #NASS50 and #GoingForGold so we can feature your achievement and celebrate our national community!

Go for Gold

Can’t walk? You can still help us reach our target!

If you are unable to take on a physical walk right now, you can still play a massive role in launching this vital new project for those living with difficult-to-manage axial SpA. Please consider supporting our virtual walkers by making a direct donation to the main campaign page:

Why take part?

  • This year marks NASS’s 50th anniversary, and we are excited to gather the axial SpA community in recognizing 50 years of support, advocacy and action. This event, at its heart, is about recognising how far we’ve come, celebrating our community, and rallying for the future.
  • During our 50th anniversary, we aim to raise £50,000, making this event’s £30,000 target an important first milestone towards this goal. We are calling out to members of the NASS community for help! As we look to the future, we are launching a new project to support those members of our community whose axial SpA is difficult to manage. Every pound raised will support this project and help improve living with axial SpA for future generations.
  • With these funds, NASS will be able to reach more healthcare professionals and patients, further support those most affected by the condition, advance research for axial SpA treatment, and continue to campaign and advocate for change. Your donation will truly make a difference for the future of people living with axial SpA.
  • Moving this event online means we can bring our entire national community together like never before. Let’s turn this heatwave hurdle into a massive celebration of the past 50 years and a powerful kickoff for the next 50.
