Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital

  • Fortnightly axial SpA (AS) clinic. This is run by Prof. Bowness and Prof. Wordsworth with major input from Dr Al-Mossawi (clinical lecturer)
  • In addition Prof. Bowness runs a monthly clinic in psoriatic arthritis
  • Dr Laura Coates also runs a psoriatic arthritis clinic These dedicated clinics include specialist biologic research nurses and 2 specialist axial SpA (AS) physiotherapists
  • All patients are assessed using standard axial SpA (AS) monitoring tools, such as BASDAI, BASFI, BASMI & mSASSS
  • There is immediate access to specialist physiotherapy, orthopedic advice and biological treatment assessments
  • The clinic is run in a self contained area of the new out-patient clinical area at the NOC and there is the option of admitting patients for in-patient physio in the rheumatology ward at the NOC
  • Weekly hydrotherapy classes run at then NOC for the local NASS group
  • The rheumatologist with an interest in axial SpA (AS) is Professor Paul Bowness
  • There is a specialist spinal surgery unit at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital
  • It is the Centre of Excellence (recognised by EULAR) for research including programmes of research in axial SpA (AS) (ARUK Programme Grant)
  • The team also covers John Radcliffe Hospital
