Research Fund Awards

In 2017 NASS funded three AS research projects. Our awards were made to:

Dr Edwin Lim, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, for his project Axial Spondyloarthritis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease – secondary care cross-sectional prevalence and development of an evidence-based referral tool

Professor Alexander MacGregor, University of East Anglia, for his project SASH: Simulation of Ankylosing Spondylitis Healthcare Services in the UK

Melanie Martin, Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Trust, for her project A National Survey of the Provision and Attitudes towards Hydrotherapy in the Management of Spondyloarthritis: The service-provider to service-user perspective

In 2016 NASS funded two AS research projects

Our awards were made to:

Dr Jon Packham, Keele University

For his project CLASP – Characterising Low back pain Associated with Skin Psoriasis

Ms Debbie Chagadama, Mile End Hospital

For her project Health-related Quality of Life Experiences of Bangladeshi patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis

In 2015 NASS funded four AS research projects 

Our awards were made to:

Dr Tatiana Macfarlane, University of Aberdeen

For her project into ‘Role of diet in the aetiology of ankylosing spondylitis'

Ms Emma Sargeant, University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff

For her project ‘A service evaluation of the one week and two-week Ankylosing Spondylitis Intensive Rehabilitation Programme'

Dr Helen Davies, Swansea University

For the project ‘Mindfulness intervention in ankylosing spondylitis'

Dr Kirstie Haywood, Warwick Medical School

For the project ‘Fatigue and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS): improving patient outcomes'.

All these research projects fit with the NASS research priorities which you all helped set for us back in 2013.
