Four Trustee Roles at NASS… Including a new Chair of the Board

Every year we hold elections for the NASS Board of Trustees which are voted for in advance of the Annual General Meeting by our members. Being a trustee is a unique opportunity to drive forward the strategic direction of the charity.

Trustees should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board reach sound decisions, as well as provide strategic direction for the CEO and team when we are planning our projects and programmes of work.

This year we will be recruiting to FOUR specific roles: Chair, Treasurer, Health Care Professional and Lay/Lived Experience.

A new NASS Chair

This is a special year, as Raj Mahapatra steps down from his role as Chair after 11 years leading the charity. We are incredibly grateful to Raj for the work that he has done during his tenure, and we will be sure to celebrate when he formally steps down.

This does present an opportunity for someone new to take charge of the Board of Trustees. You will need to be an excellent communicator and leader, driven and understand charity governance.

Important information about the role of Chair

Any potential chair needs to (1) stand as a trustee, (2) be elected by the members, and (3) then be selected by the Board as Chair.

The process that we have put in place for the selection of a new Chair is as follows:

  • Potential candidates must have a discussion with the CEO/Chair before they submit their application.
  • NASS will hold a webinar for any potential candidates.
  • You must be a NASS member to stand.
  • Candidate applications for the role of Chair must address a set of questions in their written application, with an overall word limit of 400 – 500 words, supported by a brief video.
  • Applicants must be available for an online meeting with a small group of NASS trustees on 28th July between 5.00 – 7.00 pm.
  • The Board of trustees will then review all Chair nominations before selecting the candidate or candidates that it considers to be most suitable. Only this / these candidates will be included in the voting papers that are sent to members.
  • Once the AGM has been concluded and the Chair candidate with the highest number of votes selected, the Board will select its new Chair.
  • Nominations close on 25 July 2025.
  • The results will be announced at the AGM on 6 September 2025.
  • All NASS members will be able to vote for the nominees either online or by post
