The NASS response to proposed changes in disability benefits

The government have announced changes to the welfare system with the aim of saving £5bn by 2029

So far they have said:
  • Eligibility for the main disability benefit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) will be narrowed
  • In Universal credit, the measure used to determine if someone is able to work will be scrapped in 2028 and will instead be assessed through PIP
  • The government will consult on merging Jobseeker’s Allowance and Employment Support Allowance
We are concerned that this will have a serious impact on people with axial SpA. We have joined the campaign led by Scope. We have signed an open letter to the Chancellor. There is also a petition that you can sign and details on how to contact your MP.
Read the letter, sign the petition and contact your MP.
We will continue to work with the Disability Benefits Consortium to get the best outcomes we can for people living with axial SpA, including reviewing and responding to the Green Paper which was published on 18 March.
