Working with other organisations: campaigning for people with axial SpA

Here at NASS we are always working behind the scenes to campaign on behalf of those with axial SpA. That might be a campaign that we run on our own, but often we work with other organisations on broader issues that affect people living with a long term conditions.

Words matter

We joined 60 other charities to write to the Chancellor Rachel Reeves, asking her to think about the language that she uses when talking about the welfare system and social security as she prepares to deliver the budget.
We want to build a narrative rooted in compassion and not blame. We want a system that supports not stigmatises. We want a system that builds confidence and protects us all.
With thanks to @turn2us for their leadership and collaboration.

Resourcing for the third sector

In a letter signed by 64 health and care organisations including NASS, National Voices calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to ensure the third sector and those it advocates for have the resources needed to close the gap in healthy life expectancy.

The letter highlighted the importance of working with people and communities and the VCSE organisations representing them to democratise decision making in health and care.

The letter, also sent to Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, puts forth three main asks for the Treasury to ensure the third sector, and those it advocates for, have the resources needed to support the Government’s ambition of “halving the gap in healthy life expectancy between the richest and poorest regions in England.”

These are:

  • Maintain VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance investment
  • Introduce measures to reduce the health impact of the rising cost of living
  • Review legacy donation mechanisms
